Be a hero
Be a hero
A Poem by Coyote Poetry
We need someone to love us and tell us we will be okay.

I need a hero
What have I become? I have lost the old dreams.
I have colored my life gray and I have learn to accept less.
I’m left with shadows of faces and places I can’t find.
Men will sin and dance in the seven deadly sins and learn one day.
What did I save? We hurt ourselves daily with accepting less and living for false dreams.
I was going to save the world. I can’t even save myself today.
Yesterday heroes told me. You can do anything you want. Only dreams not reachable is the dream
left sleeping and undone. I hear echoes of voices telling me. Johnnie, you will be alright. Old wise
Grandfather had left me with good words and base. I wish I could hear his voice today.
We are monsters, demons and abusers. Promises made and broken. Liars and storytellers.
I learn after 56 years of life. We must trip and fall many times. Hope we leave something worthwhile
for us to hold on to and care for.
I need a hero today . I had my examples. Martin Luther King Jr. Standing for the all of us. Telling us to get education and never allow anyone to look down at you. Gandhi, showing us to peace and calm. Kahlil Gibran and Oz Mandino showing us love and good dreams and goals are worthwhile.
My Grandsons looked at me. The Grandfather who take them to fun places. In their eyes. Their grandpa is their hero. Maybe we learn with time to be kinder and more loving. Please be a hero. Share a smile and a hello. Help a stranger if you can. My dear Grandfather took us to the fruit market. He bought his vegetables and fruit. On the way home he saw a homeless person. He stopped the car. Separated the fruit and vegetables into another bag. Left the car and gave the food to the homeless person. The homeless man told my Grandfather. God bless you. My kind Grandfather told him. I hope this can help you. Left the man with a handshake and a smile. He didn’t look down or pity the man.
My mother was poor. $1.50 hour nurses aide job in the sixties. Every Friday a woman would bring us a bag of groceries for almost a year . She handed the bag to me or my sister, said hello and goodbye. When I return from the service. I found her to try to repay her. She was a real hero to me. She was very happy I found her and she told me. She was happy I did Okay. She offered me coffee and food. We talked for hours. She told me. Don’t got to give a lot. Give enough to help another person. Good deeds make us know we can change our world. If only one person at a time. She wouldn’t accept money or gift. She told me. My thank you was enough.
This world need more heroes. Good people who show concern and love without demanding payment. Thank you for reading and remember. One planet and one people. Pray for peace, pray for the safety of all children and pray no children must sleep with war near.

Thank you. We must teach our children. Being kind, sharing a smile and hello. Simple and easy gifts to share.

Yes, yes, and YES. Too many people are too busy with too many things with not enough time to actually spend time with their children.
Your poem is special.

You are right. I tried to be a good parent. I had bad ones. I was lucky. Grandparent raised me.

Absolute truth, people such as you, your grandfather, the kind lady who brought groceries, all of you represent the heights to which we can ascend as a species through compassion for each other. Beautiful and inspiring, thank you for this
