What is life? A race or a walk? “The wild and the tamed”
The wild and the tamed
A Poem by Coyote Poetry
Is is better to play dead or create fear?
![]()
Some men don’t fear death.
They don’t believe in destiny or final solution.
Life is to be lived.
Cigarettes, whiskey and wine is their song.
The cold and lonely road had stole their heart.
Dead in heart and soul leave no pity or time for love or salvation.
Salvation is for the men yearning for peace in a world seeking
death and destruction. The tamed heart yearn for calm and peace.
Hard places to find in a life.
The wild side is easy. Woman want little from you.
Always places to find people on the dead-end road.
The taverns are filled with people who accepted less.
Some of us danced on the wild side and the tamed life.
I’m older and I have accepted the tamed life.
In sweet and wild dreams. I’m drinking the whiskey. Singing the old songs.
Giving death the middle finger.
It is sad being the lonely man waiting for death.
Death will come. I wondered often. Is what we do in life meaningful?
Or are we just foolish men pissing into the wind.
Coyote

Purpose and meaning are somethings that will only be found outside of one’s self. Without it, choosing life is the hardest thing you will ever do. But with it, (though no less difficult), the choice is clearly worth it. The question then remains, where are such valuable commodities to be found? We must keep our eyes and hearts open, for the answer is much simpler than we make it to be. – Thanks for writing. I have felt very much the same as you express here.

I’m old now. I learn that I wasn’t so important. Our kids and the good we can do is. Thank you for reading and the comment.

As a poet and a philosopher myself, I would be remiss not to mention where I have personally found purpose. I have no intention of using your comments thread as a platform to preach, so understand that’s not my intent. It’s just the only thing that makes sense to me, and it has been proven to me in my own life, so I share it when the opportunity arises.
The complexities of the cosmos prove to me there must be a divine being, and my faith in the God of the Bible has shown to me his sovereignty, mystery, and yet infinitely gracious nature. If you can imagine the ramifications of this being true, you can understand how all one does in life is rich with meaning. You’re right, death will come – at least physical – but to know that one was created for a specific purpose, and the time allotted us all was not in vain – it is very comforting.
There, a little slice of my perspective – though unsolicited, I realize. Feel free to delete or respond as you see fit. I just thought I’d pass it along for whatever it is worth.

I wondered if perhaps you knew God. Often those who wrestle most with the issues of life are those who understand Him the best.

I lose and found God often. I pray daily to God now. I learn. The beauty of this earth is one of many gifts given to us by God. I use Jesus in my story and poetry. We need a man like him today. To show us love, kindness and concern is the way.

there is nothing that so beguiles, as when a child looks up and smiles. Your presence means more than you can imagine .

I think seeking life is perhaps the harder road. I have faced down a gun before almost hoping the trigger would be pulled. I laughed at him and told him to shoot straight so the insurance would pay off. Wounding me would keep me from making money. People thought I was a hero. 🙂 Yes seeking life is more difficult. Good post.

I agree. Today I fear living. Not dying. Hard place to land. I have my grandchildren who keep me positive.
