Cathedral Window, Margaret Mair, original art Cathedral Window, Margaret Mair, original art

The window looks
Both in and out,
Yet no eye sees
Clearly through it.
Crimson glass
Transmutes the sun’s
White hot fire
To warm red light
Suffusing all inside,
Painting each corner,
Touching each heart,
Enkindling each soul.
Sun’s retreat leaves
A star-shattered dark;
The same glass reflects
The feebler twinkling of
Our own small stars
Safely sheltered inside
Thick stone walls
Where we, cloistered,
Wait for the light
Of another day’s
Crimson dawning.
The window looks
Both in and out;
And so do we,
Hidden behind it.
