What is right? What is wrong?
“The U.S. military budget is $824.1 billion. That’s the budget for Fiscal Year 2018 which covers the period October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2018. Military spending is the second largest federal government expenditure, after Social Security at $1 trillion. U.S. military spending is larger than the next nine countries combined. ”
“Adoption of President Trump’s proposed cuts to the FY2017 and FY2018 budgets could lead to tragedy and crisis for millions of vulnerable people across the Horn of Africa and beyond, the global organization Mercy Corps testifies today at a House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing on “East Africa’s Quiet Famine.”
With famine already declared in parts of South Sudan and looming across Nigeria, Yemen and Somalia, 1.4 million children are currently at risk of imminent death, warns Michael Bowers, Mercy Corps’ Vice President for Humanitarian Leadership and Response. In light of this need, the proposed budget cuts are “not only irresponsible, but undercut America’s humanitarian leadership role in the world,” Bowers says in written testimony.”
What is important? and what is not?

Once I thought I had a hard life. Once I thought I knew hunger.
Once I thoughts I had no opportunity. President Clinton send my division in the Army to Africa three times in the nineties. We went on a water, food and medicine mission.
We went to Africa to help. I remember our medical people working non-stop to save life. I saw great sadness in their eyes. Doctors and nurses trying to save lives. I took food to villages and I cooked for them. They saw us as saviors and heros. Not soldiers.
We broke down years of hate and separation. Us soldiers cries often. We had to bury children, women and men. A death from starvation. Cannot be described in words.
I remember the doctors and nurses. So damn tire and they would never rest. Their eyes filled with sadness. They lost more people than they could save. I held nurses crying and I told them. We must what we can. This is all we can do.
My unit in one day. We find and bury 500 bodies. Mostly children. We worked in silence and we didn’t understand how the world allow starvation to kill.
Today a cold-hearten Pesident want to cancel the 2 billion for the Africa. We spend with the military pension. 1.2 trillion on the military. He wants to add 60 billion more to the Military budget. 25% of our Tax Dollars goes toward the active wars. I work and I pay a lot of taxes. I do not mind my dollars going to save lives.
What is wrong? and what is right?
Dear child. How can I tell you?
You are forgotten.
Poor child. You did choose this place.
You did not decide this life.
What is wrong? and what is right?
Wrong is forgetting. Every child need food and a safe place to live. A safe place to survive.
Right is giving with a open heart.
Right is the willingness to help the people in need.
I saw starvation.
I saw a child with a smile and I watched the child die.
I belive every life had value.
The child in Detroit and the child in Africa are part of our world.
One death to hunger. Man’s second greatest sin.
The worst sin is spending 1.2 trillion on war and forgetting the child.
“The conflict-fueled hunger crises in Nigeria, Somalia and South Sudan have culminated in a trio of potential famines hitting almost simultaneously. Nearly 16 million people in the three countries are at risk of dying within months.”
“The United States traditionally has been the largest donor to the U.N. and gives more foreign aid to Africa than any other continent. In 2016 it gave more than $2 billion to the U.N.’s World Food Program, or almost a quarter of its total budget. That is expected to be reduced under Trump’s proposed budget, according to former and current U.S. government officials.”
This brought tears to my eyes. Poverty is an issue close to my heart. Thank you for raising awareness, especially in so powerful and poignant a way.

I saw dead cities in Africa. I had to make soup for people who could not digest food. I pray we learn. Saving life and kindness can create a road to peace. Thank you Anna for reading and the comment. We need a strong President like President Clinton. He did the right and proper things for the country and the world..

One current hot-button topic is the demand by the White House that all NATO allies spend 2% of their GDP on Defense. My cynical self sees this a a veiled attempt to force the allies to buy more American military arms regardless of the necessity. However, in a less cynical vein, I wonder how you might define “defense”.
If a NATO country were to provide famine relief, is that not “defense”? How about building schools and supplying teachers in Afghanistan and the refugee camps? Developing a water purification system? Maybe a “Radio Free Africa” network?
It’s interesting what constitutes “defense” when you broaden the term beyond military expenditures.

Human care. Concern and kindness open the door to peace. I hope we learn one day. I agree with you.

Misplaced priorities! Still it hurts that Africa is only ever on the news for the most soul wrenching and all the wrong reasons.

Africa or Asia. USA had 5 million hungry people. But when millions can die from starvation. All of us should have concern. I saw the starvation in Africa. USA must help. Many organization are trying but need planes and money.

What is wrong and you say what is right. Most important of all I think wrong things to do for example in this nation is not helping many poor countries, that want or have the desire to grow and due better but instead they don’t have the necessary tools to do it. Meanwhile the right thing to do in my opinion is to help donate clothes or create a fund for the ones that are not able to provide for themselves, and to also share with others that maybe can’t do the same as anybody else can. “Its the thoughts that counts.

I don’t know. I saw Asia and Africa. USA spend more money on defense than human care. If you want to have peace and calm in this world. We must be friend. Send water, food and medicine. Not give weapons and money to expand war. If war had no money. Can’t pay soldiers. War shall end. Rome empire, prime example.

Wow!! Man that’s crazy, you would think they would invest that money into helping that country, but instead they use it or take advantage of the soldiers and many veterans that out their fighting for our country.

I was a soldier for 15 years. I never fought for the USA. Us soldiers fought for oil. USA hadn’t been attack by another country since WW2. Soldiers are to defend our borders, not play policemen for a world.

I agree you are absolutely right man. Soldiers goal and jobs is to protect the border, and to of course make an impact I think toward the nation.
