On the 186th Abolition of Slavery Day in Mauritius
Powerful words by a talented writer.
While you lay the flowers
at the memorial stone,
remind yourself of
a fearless nation
emerged from the shackles of metal
moved mountains
liberated minds and bodies
walked on water
resisting oppression,
the curse of injustices.
Abolishing slavery,
the seal of hierarchy.
Together stories of their plight
resonate throughout existence
a lesson of freedom
the real gold under the stone.
While you lay the flowers,
at the memorial stone
do not excuse yourself
from witnessing today.

I have been (briefly) to MAURITIUS,
But I spent a lot of Time on Diego Garcia—Wonderful, Magical Place (For me anyway—Most of My Shipmates did not concur (Because They were incapable of embracing happiness)
Great Post John.
Thank you for shaking some good memories out of my befuddled mind.
This is a multi-part series: I spent a lot of virtual ink On Diego Garcia. I hope you find the time to read one day.
Cheers
