Red Leaf Trees Near the Road

If Autumn had a name,

I would call it, shout and holler its name,

Until the jagged edges of every forest pine,

Heard the echoes of my sublime whispers.

If Autumn was my love,

I would hold it sacredly in my arms,

Keep it safe and distant,

From the shadows of doubt and negligence.

If Autumn was my friend,

I would bind it in a lifelong friendship,

Cherished endlessly,

From now till then.

If Autumn was my destiny,

With no reverence I would surrender,

Into the warmth and depth,

Recklessly without mercy.

But as I stand here,

Embraced in the satin air of a crisp morning,

I can only wonder and question,

Who is Autumn?

Are you the beautiful child of nature,

Are you the invisible wind of life,

Are you just Autumn?
