She glided
like a sleek cadillac
down the Unter den Linden
her smile as wide
as the Brandenburg Gate
and came onto me
engine purring
like a lady of the night
parked up
under an old gas light
waiting for business
We met lips with passion
then she said
“Look over there”
I glanced quietly
taking in her eyes
all the way
“The old Bismarck Chancellery
used to be there”
To show appreciation
I softly kissed her again
“Don’t say”
I said
coming up for air
and imagined a labyrinth
of endless cold corridors
history echoing
through its cold heart
A guy strolled past
with a face
that was as brown
as an 18th century
mahogany bureau
cracking his finger joints
in a lackadaisical manner
before turning the corner
and disappearing
down a drain-
