Smiling Eyes
Powerful and worthwhile poetry.
That feeling of nervous anticipation
I had almost forgotten
Skin alive with electricity
Senses dialled to 11
It could have been yesterday
I only wish it was
But 5 years had passed
Without the light from those smiling eyes
At the time it felt like forever
In that moment a second
From the first hello
All the time in-between obliterated
Lost in a joy I forgot
The consuming doubt of most days
Her’s the only voice in my head
That minute the only time
As if we’d always been there
Those years consigned to history
Comforting rhythm returned never faltered
Those smiling eyes in turn bringing smiles
