Serendipitous Discoveries

I learnt (or is it learned) a new word today, or an expression, or something, because really its two words… I stumbled upon it by accident

looking for an alternative to potpourri…

… I’ve the word potpourri a few times before “

– used ‘mixed bag’ as well…

So I went searching my Wordweb lexicon

And came across

Mélange “

a varied mixture, an assortment of things

now Mélange I have heard of

and I think I may have used it once

but it always seemed such an indulgent word

for such a prosaic definition…

But Mélange led me to….

…. omnium-gatherum

Say it… doesn’t it just vibrate deliciously!

Doesn’t it roll around your tongue like an ancient chant!

Ok… perhaps I’m getting a little bit carried away… but

I learnt (or is it learned) a new word today

 or an expression, or something

omnium-gatherum –   a miscellaneous collection (as of things or persons)

And it tickled my muse.
