Grandpa cries all night
At the sight of the coastline
Almost grabbing his once vast beach land
Son far beyond those tides was my land boundary
With this sea selfish sea line
But now see I’m losing it to the sea

Grandpa cries all night
When he sees the vast destruction
On the forest of the mangrove
A heritage he prides in
“Mikoko ndio sisi mwana,”
Mangroves are part of us, son
He tells me
As he sees them destroyed
To pave way for construction of the New Port
And other blue print projects
A thing that pierces his heart

Grandpa cries all night
At the sight of the little fish catch
While trawlers stay at the deep sea
Fishing mercilessly
At the expense of hungry locals

Grandpa cries all night
Tears of sorrow
Wishing to see his home preserved
Just as it was in the days of his youth
