Under the Aarne–Thompson–Uther classification system used by many folklorists they are classified as type 505. Many of these tale types share a basic structure where a debtor dies leaving their debts unpaid and are refused a proper burial or in this case absurdly intended to dig up a dead person expecting them to pay the debt. In some cultures dying in debt or not getting a proper funeral prevented the dead from moving on to heaven.
