Still waters
of the limpid lake
hovered like a veil of silk in the breeze
Afloat over the enigmatic depths
Suspended above the realms below
Silent and unseen

Vibrant with creatures and movement and very life
Eyes, heartbeats
Births, deaths

And an eternity of ripples
lapped softly
at an osier lined bank
Which edged the deep inkiness
as it shrouded the magnitude of the abyss

Realm of mysteries unfathomable
Which flourished in concealed dominions
‘neath the shimmering screen

It lay impassive
over the implacable chasm
For to shield the watery kingdom
that dwelt in the bottomless basin

While a serene moon of alabaster
dangled low in the cold night sky
‘gainst a cloth of indigo blue
Stretched across the vast emptiness
of remote heavenly realms
Forever a’glitter with a myriad diamond white stars
that carpeted an infinite cosmos
Without end
