I lift my eyes….
I lift my eyes
A Poem by Coyote Poetry
“We need to open our eyes and find the good in each day.”

I lift my eyes….
Barren cold and heartless world.
Fear had tarnish laughter and opportunity for friendship.
People surviving like the living dead.
Few glimpses of emotion.
People looking forward and blinded to the people around them.
We have become ghosts and alone.
Once love was the reward of a good life.
Now loneliness and separation is okay.
“One is a lonely number.”
I tell people.
Lift your eyes.
Reach for the sky.
Watch the beauty of the clouds and the sun.
Put your feet in the running river.
Sing and dance with strangers.
Nothing is lost. If nothing is gained.
A locked door.
Allowed no-one in.
One day we will wished we open the door.
Danced a thousand dances. Had a million sweet kisses.
Embraced a lover till the morning light often.
I lift my eyes.
I see my children needing hope.
I see Grand kids needing a smile and a safe place.
I see strangers alone wishing for a kind word.
Old world need hope and more laughter.
Kids need to dream and have fun.
We can’t live with fear.
Lift your eyes to the beauty of Nature.
Drink coffee and play a good game of chess.
Laugh, dance, travel and test life.
People blinded by disappointment.
They will die alone only knowing regret.
Coyote
This is so poignant to the truth. Alas, we are in the time, of what I call…….”The Walking Dead” those who believe in a deception and walk accordingly and push their evil agenda as far as they can……
But like you’ve said, some dwell in darkness because they are alone, no family, no friends….rejected because they refuse to listen to the deceptive lies of those that push the jab of death.
I feel for them, I am alone, yet my God is with me, I have peace. No family, no friends any longer for they rather dwell and believe in a lie, that’s their choice and I feel for them……but I look upon the clear blue winter sky, and breath in the “snowy air”……..Or “I smell snow”, I cook, I bake, I do laundry, I write, I read, drink my coffee & some wine, chips & dip, candles, a good movie, the night sky with twinkling stars….I even argue with myself…..why? Why not, I am at times my best friend, and my worst enemy. I make my self laugh at some of the most ridiculous things I do, or think, I dance by myself, I sing, and most importantly I give thanks to my Glorious Father, who is in Heaven and dwells within my heart, for ALL things, even in the loneliness.
You have your family, and that is lovely….you are blessed……your writings reveal a gentle soul, because you have suffered much, but also you still have battles within yourself……..
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, because I can relate…..my friend……
Shalom……….

What a well-written poem. I love that it is encapsulated in the positivity of looking at the bright side of things. I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments it expresses, that the world we live in is rather cold and heartless, it perpetuates fear and sadly many of us are simply surviving and not really living. So what do we do in the face of all this? I think the poem’s tone, imagery, and diction work well to answer this question by inspiring us to lift our eyes to the beauty of Nature, to laugh, dance, travel, and my personal favorite to play a good game of chess.
