Been awhile my friend..
I visit my good friend,
the ground was cold and I brought his favorite beer.
I take one Budweiser and I leave the five remainders on his grave.
I sit and I clean-up the few weeds around his grave and I read the note
from his daughter in some fresh flowers.
“Dear Daddy, I miss you, I love you and I remember you.”
I told my friend. Been awhile and I miss your laughter.
Your baby girls are beautiful mamas and I got old.
Please keep a seat open for me, I hope one day.
At the soldier table, we can talk of family,
we can talk of the good days and I will laugh again.
I stood up and I saluted the lonely grave with the Silver Star posted.
I told the cold day. I remember you my friend.
Coyote
Quite poignant, yet beautiful and soul-filling. What a great memory and wish to a departed friend.

Your poem recalls to mind the beautiful and heart-strumming song from 1965, “The Green Green Grass of Home”

I know the beautiful song William. All the wars, old and new. Take the best from us. Thank you for reading and the comment.

Thank you my dear friend. I lost three friends to the new wars. Like my father. I learn. War cost a lot.
