The things we do.
(War is a sin my friend. John Denver.)
The Things we do?
I’m far from a Angel.
I believe some deeds in life
can’t be forgotten.
A beautiful girl Rachel Corrie.
She stood in front of homes and clinics. A life shield for people far away.
Protecting strangers homes with her life.
She was killed.
How can we forgive Israel for killing an unarmed woman?
Sitting with a Soldier on the Iraq border.
First Sergeant asked me to sit and talk.
He handed me a letter.
Old First Sergeant eyes were full of tears.
Asked me to read it?
His wife wrote.
Your stuff is in storage.
New man moved in.
Don’t come home.
He told me.
“I will kill them both if I could.”
I sat in silence.
I thank the lord of life and death.
We are 7,000 miles away.
Been gone on President Clinton field trips.
The 1st Cavalry Division Soldiers were on the Iraq border
for 6 months. Tanks and helicopters ready to kill and destroy.
We sat and waited with Tanks, Helicopters
and Soldiers ready. The Iraq army went home.
We landed back in Texas.
I went home to my wife and children.
I’m glad to be home.
I heard a knock on my door.
My good friend told me his wife and children are gone.
I went with him. We searched for his family.
I’m scare my friend would hurt someone or himself.
He loved his kids.
What woman would leave without a goodbye or address?
Deeds done in the
emotion of love and hate.
Leave us unfulfilled and not content.
Deeds done with
the possibility of bad consequences.
Should be done with concern and common sense.
Hate and violence.
Overpowering the good deeds of many.
Sins, mistakes and errors cannot be stops.
We must try to overcome the fear of
Race, Religion and the Color of skin.
I have seen deeds that should not be forgiven.
At the moment of the action.
The First sergeant went home and found a good woman.
My good friend found his children.
Rachel Corrie left us with the memory of a person.
Who gave all for the safety of woman and children.
Some scars are deep and painful.
We must forgive and move on.
Swimming in hate and revenge.
Will create a hurricane of bloodshed that will never end.
The blood will flow till nothing is left.
I learn in my fifty-five years of living.
Being pissed off and ready to attack.
Leave no winners.
All of US.
Asia, Europe, Africa and America.
People of this world.
Must demand the hate and violence to stop.
It is time to heal.
Feed the world.
Give comfort.
Some deeds in life can’t be forgotten.
Will the blood of our children and more innocent children.
Bring peace to the world?

Powerful poem, and one which reminds of us of a brave loving woman Rachel Corrie and all others like herself who stand, in love, from the heart. As John says- for the future of humanity and peace- “some scars are deep and painful…We must forgive and move on.” And that means every single one of us.

Rachel Corrie walked into a world as she wanted it to be and died in the world as it is. Naiveté is deadly. As for Jody, he deserves to die.

The waters roar, the earth rumbles and fires churn beneath its crust. The air grows still, thick and subdued. I hear its cries, I feel its pain and the torment. I cry.
