I overlooked an Orchid…
I overlooked the orchid…
I overlooked the orchid while searching for a rose.
The orchid I overlooked was you.
The rose that I was searching for was proved to be untrue.
The orchid, now I found, was you.
The orchid is a flower that blooms so tenderly,
to cheer the fairest lady of the land.
If placed beside the blushing rose,
the rose could not compare.
Now how time and wine taught me to understand.
The rose has lost its color but the orchid is still the same.
And I am alone to face the lonely year.
I didn’t see the orchid, I was searching for a rose.
And now I’ll pay the price with bitter tears.

I didn’t quite get this because well I’m from the family of roses until I went to see my uncle who had told me about planting the orchid outside my grandma Rose’s window and then at the cemetery when I saw the engraving about the saints and I saw the engraving of the orchid to overlook a rose for an orchid at first I was like how could anyone even think of it my granny is a rose and then I realized she’s now an orchid to me she’s a very rare rose orchid I come from a long line of flowers all my petals are beautiful thank you so much for this beautiful poetry I always enjoy your writings and their ability to take me outside of myself and into something very beautiful to be witness to🙏

I wish I wrote the words. A old song from a song sang 70 years ago.

One of the great songs. Hank William senior sang in the fifties.
