Waiting for a miracle…
Waiting for a miracle. Some mini-poetry.
1- Cheryl..
Few speak your name now.
When the whiskey is good and I seek pretty faces in my lonely nights.
I remember you.
You were a wild eyes woman who wanted to taste love.
Tonight I whisper. Cheryl, dear Cheryl.
I remember you.
I pray you found a place, where someone had loved you.
Made you smile.
2- Leona..
Did I thank you?
Did I tell you, you were my kindest friend.
Now I am a old man and I have learn.
We have few friends and my beautiful Leona.
Thank you for the dance, thank you for the love.
I got lost in new dreams and you stayed where you belongs.
I never forgot you and I know.
You can’t go back to the places you ran from.
Today I remember you dear Leona.
Thank you for the kindness of friendship.
3- Peggy..
Beautiful Peggy, you stirred my heart, many times.
You were a wild child and I tried to keep-up with you.
I could not.
You were searching for a miracle. I wondered often, did you find the miracle?
I remember us making love near the sea and you telling me.
Leave the windows wide open and show our bare asses to the moon and the stars.
I knew you for 15 years,
I saw eighteen year old girl turn into sober and sad women.
I tried to save you and you asked me the last time I saw you in 1992.
Am I your last love, am I your last kiss?
I told you that day. It is your decision my pretty Peggy.
I want to be.
Peggy needed the gin and the whiskey. She told me on the telephone in 1993.
Love isn’t enough for me Johnnie.

Wow and each one waiting for the miracle to come. What I admire about you John, is you remember every one who came into your life and with your poetry and words you honor them, even those lost in the bottle, waiting for the miracle. to come..still…at least they had you for awhile.
